The Flash Player is available as a plugin for recent versions of web browsers (such as Mozilla Firefox, SeaMonkey, Opera, and Safari) on selected platforms. The plugin is not required for Google Chrome anymore since Google integrated Flash support into the Chrome browser. Adobe states that each version of the plugin is backwards-compatible, with the exception of security changes introduced in Version 10.

Opera Software ASA (OSE: OPERA) is a Norwegian software company, primarily known for its Opera family of web browsers. Opera Software is also involved in promoting Web standards through participation in the W3C. The company has its headquarters in Oslo, Norway and is listed on Oslo Stock Exchange. MCEBrowser is a plugin for Microsoft Windows Media Center which allows you surf the Internet using a Media Center remote control. Mozilla Firefox 4 is the latest version of the Mozilla Firefox web browser, released on March 22, 2011. The first beta was made available on July 6, 2010, Release Candidate 2 (On which the Final version is based) was released on March 18, 2011. It is codenamed Tumucumaque and has been confirmed as the last big release cycle Mozilla will do. The Mozilla team will instead opt for smaller and quicker releases as other browser vendors have been doing.

The primary goals for this version include improvements in performance, standards support, and the user interface.

Opera is a web browser and Internet suite developed by Opera Software. The browser handles common Internet-related tasks such as displaying web sites, sending and receiving e-mail messages, managing contacts, chatting on IRC, downloading files via BitTorrent, and reading web feeds. Opera is offered free of charge for personal computers and mobile phones.

Features include tabbed browsing, page zooming, mouse gestures, and an integrated download manager. Its security features include built-in phishing and malware protection, strong encryption when browsing secure websites, and the ability to easily delete private data such as HTTP cookies.

Opera runs on a variety of personal computer operating systems, including Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and FreeBSD. The Desktop Team recently dropped support for Solaris.

Opera is known for originating many features later adopted by other Web browsers. Despite these factors, Opera has captured only a small fraction of the worldwide personal computer browser market. It does, though, have a stronger market share on mobile devices such as mobile phones, smartphones, and personal digital assistants. Editions of Opera are available for devices using the Maemo, BlackBerry, Symbian, Windows Mobile, Android, and iPhone operating systems, as well as Java ME-enabled devices. Approximately 120 million mobile phones have been shipped with Opera. Opera is the only commercial web browser available for the Nintendo DS and Wii gaming systems. Some television set-top boxes use Opera. Adobe Systems has licensed Opera technology for use in the Adobe Creative Suite.

Mozilla Firefox 4 is an upcoming version of the Mozilla Firefox web browser. The first beta was made available on July 6, 2010, and the final release is tentatively scheduled for November 2010.

The primary goals for this version include major improvements in performance, standards support, and the user interface; with a focus on “putting users in full control of their browser”. (this is Beta version)

Google Chrome is a web browser developed by Google that uses the WebKit layout engine and application framework. It was first released as a beta version for Microsoft Windows on 2 September 2008, and the public stable release was on 11 December 2008. The name is derived from the graphical user interface frame, or “chrome”, of web browsers. As of August 2010^[update], Chrome was the third most widely used browser, with 7.54% of worldwide usage share of web browsers, according to Net Applications.

In September 2008, Google released a large portion of Chrome’s source code, including its V8 JavaScript engine, as an open source project entitled Chromium. This move enabled third-party developers to study the underlying source code and help port the browser to Mac OS X and Linux. A Google spokesperson also expressed hope that other browsers would adopt V8 to improve web application performance. The Google-authored portion of Chromium is released under the permissive BSD license, which allows portions to be incorporated into both open source and closed-source software programs. Other portions of the source code are subject to a variety of open-source licenses. Chromium implements the same feature set as Chrome, but lacks built in automatic updates and Google branding, and most notably has a blue-colored logo in place of the multicolored Google logo.

Windows Internet Explorer 9 (abbreviated as IE9) is the upcoming version of the Internet Explorer web browser from Microsoft. It is currently available as a public beta version, released on September 15, 2010.

IE9 will have complete or nearly complete support for all CSS 3 selectors, border-radius CSS 3 property, faster JavaScript, and embedded ICC v2 or v4 color profiles support via Windows Color System. IE9 will feature hardware-accelerated graphics rendering using Direct2D, hardware accelerated text rendering using DirectWrite, hardware accelerated video rendering using Media Foundation, imaging support provided by Windows Imaging Component, and high fidelity printing powered by the XPS print pipeline.

IE9 also supports the HTML5 video and audio tags and the Web Open Font Format. Some industry experts claim that Microsoft will release IE9 as a major out-of-band version that is not tied to any particular version of Windows.

The system requirements for IE9 are Windows 7 or Windows Vista SP2 (with Platform Update and IE8); Windows XP is not supported.
